满足更严格的氮氧化物和氨气排放合规要求通常颇具挑战，且成本高昂。SNCR技术本身往往无法实现足够低的氮氧化物和氨气排放水平来满足合规要求，而SCR技术一般投资成本又较大（特别是对现有设施来说）。由于一些限制（占地面积、净空高度或引风机容量）以及其他意外影响因素，对现有设施进行SCR改造所需的资金投入往往要比在工厂新建时安装SCR要高。
